Vitamin K


How does it work?

Vitamin K is an essential vitamin required for the production of prothrombin, necessary for blood clotting.1 Vitamin K is also needed for bone formation and repair; osteocalcin synthesis; converting glucose into glycogen; and promoting healthy liver function.2 Low levels of vitamin K can cause abnormal or internal bleeding, however deficiency is rare as dietary intake is easily obtainable through vegetables, meat and eggs.3 Supplementation of vitamin K may be required in those at risk of deficiency.

What results can be expected?

Vitamin K supplementation may assist those at risk of deficiency such as compromised digestive absorption seen in Crohn’s disease or coeliac disease; severely malnourished; heavy intake of alcohol; or take medications that interfere with absorption.4
