How does it work?
Spirulina is a microscopic single cell blue-green algae that is rich in proteins, vitamins, essential amino acids, minerals and essential fatty acids such as gamma-linolenic acid (GLA).1 There is limited research however some studies have shown spirulina has antiviral, hypocholesterolaemic, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, liver protective, antiallergic and immune modulating activity.2 It is commonly taken as a natural health supplement to boost nutrient status particularly iron and B vitamins which has also assisted some individuals to improve stress, fatigue, weight loss and menstrual symptoms.3
What results can be expected?
Spirulina may assist in increasing nutrient status amongst individuals needing a plant source of iron and B vitamins.4 Spirulina may assist in treating anaemia, stress, fatigue, weight loss, menstrual issues, virus infections, cardiovascular disease, compromised immunity and inflammation, however more research is needed to verify.5
