Malic Acid

How does it work?

Malic acid is considered a type of alpha hydroxy acid, found naturally occurring in fruits such as apples and currants.1 It is known for its role in energy production in the citric acid cycle and the activation of the pentose-phosphate cycle. It is used therapeutically for musculoskeletal pain, fibromyalgia, endurance for athletic training and diabetes.3 Studies have shown malic acid in combination with magnesium is a successful treatment for muscle pain experienced in fibromyalgia.4

What results can be expected?

Malic acid supplementation may assist in reducing muscle pain especially in those with fibromyalgia; and improve energy production for intensive athletic training and exercise.5
