Bilberry (Vaccinium myrtillus)
How does it work?
Bilberry is a herb used in western herbal medicine for its antioxidant, astringent, anti-inflammatory, anti-oedema and increased blood circulation activity, particularly for eye and vascular health.1 Anthocyanosides, blue plant pigments found in Bilberry fruit along with high concentrations of tannins are mainly responsible for these actions.2
What results can be expected?
Bilberry may help to improve visual function, prevent cataract formation, improve glaucoma and diabetic retinopathy.3 It has also been shown to relieve vascular conditions such as haemorrhoids, varicose veins, fluid retention and venous insufficiency due to its astringent, anti-inflammatory and anti-oedema activity.4
